<strong>Metro Station</strong> (2 of 5)<br />This picture shows a sectioned scale model of the station. The large shapes cut out of the facade act as light wells. These light wells are oriented east and west to take in the sunlight and direct it underground for the AM and PM commutes.

<strong>Metro Station</strong> (3 of 5)<br />This image is a plan of the station, with the station occupying both sides of the street. These buildings have the potential to spark urban rejuvenation of the entire street and surrounding area by creating the presence of foot traffic that allows nearby stores and restaurants to thrive.

<strong>Metro Station</strong> (4 of 5)<br />The openings in the exterior of the buildings were very intentionally placed, as this project is all about the control and use of light. Between the primary platform light wells and a series of vertical light wells positioned in the roof, the building provides a sort of interior solar clock through the amount of light that can be seen when inside the station.

<strong>Metro Station</strong> (5 of 5)<br />I also included artificial lights in the light wells. This was for the purpose of tinting the lights to coordinate with social activities taking place in the city, such as Blues hockey games, Cardinals baseball games, holidays, etc. The main idea is that the building uses light to communicate with and direct locals at all times.

The Metrolink in St. Louis, Missouri, is a growing form of transportation. Unfortunately, the urban importance of its stations is currently grossly underutilized. This is a proposal for a better developed Metrolink station that considers the nature of the commuter and their experience. Click here to see the full documentation.
